HyCare Method

The HyCare method can be applied in existing pig pens, and is based on five important pillars: non-porous floors and walls, optimal cleaning and disinfection, preventive pest control, clean and germ-free drinking water, right working method

HyCare companies are guided and supported by HyCare coaches. Through periodic visits and online support and monitoring we ensure together that the animals are housed hygienically, preventing preventive infections. Through the HyCare quality mark (in formation) this is demonstrably guaranteed by an independent organization.

Non-porous floors and walls

When micro-organisms (in dirt, urine, manure) are present in places in the pen that are difficult to reach, adequate cleaning and disinfection cannot be achieved.

The pathogens that remain in the seams and pores infect healthy animals by direct contact or via the urine and manure in the pen. A seams- and pore-free environment is therefore essential.

Cementitious surfaces (concrete, sand-lime bricks, etc.) have an open structure and are therefore by definition unsuitable for the hygienic housing of animals.

By applying an impenetrable layer of hygiene coating at animal level to these surfaces, good hygiene can still be guaranteed.

Optimal cleaning and disinfection

After pigs are delivered, the house remains dirty with germs from the previous flock. The stable can be made germ-free again by cleaning and disinfecting well (if seam- and pore free).

HyCare combines the right tools, equipment and methods to achieve highly efficient cleaning and disinfection.

Preventive pest control

Rats, mice and flies can be an incredible nuisance to a farming business. They come into frequent contact with manure, contaminate the food with their excrements, spread all kinds of diseases that are harmful to humans and animals (Salmonella, Campylobacter, etc.) and cause stress to the animals.

An adequate approach of these pests is therefore an essential part of the HyCare method. It ensures that animals can perform optimally in a cleaner living environment. On top of that, it also ensures a better living and working environment for the pig farmer.

Clean and germ-free drinking water

The importance of drinking water quality is often underestimated, while water is the most important nutrient for animals. Water is essential for vital functions such as growth, body temperature, and the transport of nutrients and waste products in the body.

Biofilm in the piping system allows pathogens (E. coli, Salmonella, Clostridium, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, etc) to thrive and spread throughout the company. HyCare's cornerstone is a proven methodology that ensures that the water is always clean, germ-free and tasty, so that the animals stay healthy and perform optimally.

Right working method

A correct and consistent working method is a vital part of the integral HyCare method. It is an important barrier to prevent pathogens from moving around the farm and thereby infect animals in other pens, departments and stables.

A good working method goes beyond the hygiene lock, the walking lines and the supply and removal of animals. The HyCare method developed from practice is suitable for business operations. Through guidance, the HyCare method quickly becomes a daily routine.
