The Renco lean meter is a pulsing ultrasonic apparatus that measures the thickness of the layers of fat in pigs in millimeters.

Application:

The lean-meter with a probe connected to a cable transmits ultrasonic waves that enter the animal’s body
These vibrations are reflected by tissue surface of the animal
The reflected waves are electronically processed to determine the bottom of the second layer of back fat
The distance between the surface of the skin and the second layer is calculated and visualized digitally
