The swift looks for nesting places in cavity walls and under eaves and roofs. However, this nesting place is less and less available due to renovation and (after) insulation. Placing a swift nesting box is the ideal solution. Both recessed and surface mounted nesting boxes can be used without any problems in new construction, renovation or in existing buildings. The nesting box is made of the durable material Woodstone, a mixture of wood fiber and concrete.
House sparrows or starlings can also breed in swifts nesting boxes. This is often beneficial for the discovery of the nesting box by swifts. If the swifts want to use the hive as a nesting place, they will work without pardon the other user.
The nest box can be cleaned once a year from October. For this purpose, the nest box must be removed from the facade so that it is accessible from the back. Cleaning is only necessary when a bird species other than the swift has nested in the nest box. We advise to also check the soundness of the nest box and suspension every year.
