Respiratory protection ensures that no hazardous materials are present when inhaling air. Respiratory protection can be implemented in two ways: dependently and independently. Independent protection supplies clean air from an external source and dependent protection filters the air that is being inhaled.
The latter category includes dust masks. The risk level of the surrounding air can be divided into 4 classifications.
Dust masks are suitable for the first three classifications (P1, P2, P3), beyond these, a P3 filter must be combined with a full face mask. In addition to the different filters, there are also variations in the degree of comfort for the dust masks.
P1: Inert debris, smoke, and fog that do not cause any changes to the structure of the airway.
Threshold value > 10 mg/m3
P2: Hazardous debris, smoke, and fog that can affect the airway. Threshold value between 10mg/m3 and 0,1 mg/m3
P3: Highly toxic debris, smoke, and fog that can be absorbed into the bloodstream: parts of carcinogenic substances, parts of radioactive substances, bacteria, viruses, enzymes, and spores. Threshold value <0,1 mg/m3.
