What's the point of investing in a trimming chute if the herd is managed by a hooftrimmer ?

The two approaches work together. If the hoof trimmer visits monthly, they can handle both functional and curative trimming. With a good chute, the farmer can maintain care and address issues early to optimize results. However, if the trimmer only comes once or twice a year for functional trimming, investing in a chute becomes essential for managing all cases of lameness.

What's the difference between a holding cage and a hooftrimming chute ?

A hoof trimming chute is a specialized restraint cage designed for pedicure work. It’s tailored specifically for trimming, not for other tasks like blood sampling, drying off, drugging, or injections, which require different features.

Why to invest in a hydraulic chute ?

Hydraulic cages are semi-professional models, featuring advanced equipment like lifting systems, faster motors, and more power. They are designed to be highly ergonomic, making trimming much more comfortable. These improvements allow farmers to trim more efficiently, leading to earlier milking and better overall performance. While the initial investment is higher compared to electric models, hydraulic cages often pay for themselves over time.

How can I effectively prevent Mortellaro?

• Regular hooftrimming: Schedule trims, especially during drying-off and 100 days postpartum, to maintain hoof health and prevent lameness. • Hoof disinfection: Use disinfectants such as MS AutoHoofClean to regularly clean hooves and prevent new infections. • Hygiene measures: Ensure thorough cleaning and disinfection of trimming tools and equipment to prevent cross-contamination. • Boost immunity: Provide supplements like MS Ketoprotect Plus to improve hoof quality and overall immunity. • Maintain a dry environment: Keep the housing area dry to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce the risk of Mortellaro.
