The Colostrometer is used to determine colostrum quality. It measures the content of gamma

globulins via the specific density.

The spindle floats in the milk depending on the quality of the colostrum.

• Pull the bottom part with the suction hose from the glass pipette.
• Take out the packaged spindle and remove the protective net.
• Reinsert the spindle back into the pipette. The thin end of the spindle must face in the direction of the suction ball. Put the bottom part with the suction hose back over the glass pipette.
• Fill a suitable container with the milked colostrum. Make sure that the colostrum has not built
• up any foam. If it has, then scoop off the foam. The measurement should be performed at a temperature of 20 °C.
• Compress the suction ball and hang the suction hose into the colostrum.
• Slowly release the suction ball. The milk is now drawn into the pipette.
• Draw in enough milk so that the spindle can float freely. The maximum milk level should not
• exceed the narrow part of the pipette.
• Allow the spindle to adjust. When the spindle displays a constant value, the quality can then be read from the colour scale.
• Empty the milk from the pipette.
• Clean and dry all parts thoroughly.
• Put the protective net back over the spindle and place the spindle back into the pipette and
• close.
