Maintain feed quality and prevent spoilage

How can you prevent feed spoilage and maintain high quality in your ration? Using a liquid complementary feed helps safeguard forage against yeast, mold, and bacteria. By incorporating a blend of organic acids, you can keep the forage fresher for longer, ensuring higher feed intake.

What is MS Wetfeed?

MS WetFeed is a silage additive specially developed for silage preservation, top layer or cut surface treatment and feed mixer use.

When ensiling, you want to retain as much nutritional value as possible. But moisture, oxygen and unwanted bacteria such as butyric acid can ruin that considerably. MS Wetfeed tackles that. It works on the basis of several organic acids that quickly lower the pH level. So it inhibits bad bacteria and promotes good fermentation of grass or corn. And that means: less heating in the silage, less mould and more feed intake.

In short: MS Wetfeed ensures that your cows get more milk from every mouthful of feed.

Good feed quality means

  • Maintain feed value
  • Maintain taste of the feed
  • Maintain feed intake
  • Prevent gas formation and gastric reflux
  • Reduced loss of protein, energy and dry matter
  • Prevent contamination risk to the animals

Tips against scalding in mixer

In the mixer, oxygen exposure accelerates the activity of fungi, yeasts and bacteria in the feed, leading to reheating and a loss of flavor.

Provide clean equipment

Keep the mixer truck clean and free of leftover feed residue. Old feed residue can contain unwanted bacteria and fungi that reduce the effectiveness of the acid.

Mixing

Always be sure to mix the feed before adding the acid. Use the correct dosage and dilute the acid if necessary, check the prescription.

Add MS WetFeed Acid BE+

By adding MS Wetfeed BE+ to the mixer, you can inhibit the growth of microorganisms and prevent the development of waste products, which helps keep the feed temperature stable and preserves its quality. It is also recommended to treat the cut surface when feed rate is limited.View MS WetFeed Acid BE+

Tips against heating in the silage

Optimal silage storage helps reduce spoilage, but it remains vulnerable to scalding. When silage is exposed to oxygen after being removed from the silo, bacteria, yeast and fungi become active, leading to spoilage.

To ensure quality silage:

Quality

Start with a good crop to produce high-quality silage. Keep the field period short (2-3 days). Mowing in dry, sunny weather increases the sugar content in the crop, promoting higher lactic acid production. Clean and disinfect the silo/pit to prevent yeast, mold and bacteria.

Cover the silage

Compact the silage thoroughly to eliminate oxygen. Ensure that the silage cover or plastic sheet is tightly sealed and weighted down with soil to prevent air infiltration and to prevent heating. Shape the silage slightly domed to allow water to drain effectively. Take care to avoid soil contamination, as it can introduce unwanted bacteria. Regularly inspect the silage cover for any damage from birds or pests throughout the storage period.
