Since the underground carcass-cooling unit is in the ground, most of the cooling is natural, from the ground temperature. And that means that the cooling unit does not have to work very hard and thus saves costs by using less energy. This system offers longer-term carcass storage, which in turn allows less frequent pickups. It is easy to put the carcasses into this type of storage unit with one or two large cooled containers. The container is very easy for the destruction company's truck driver to hoist and load.
This is a discrete way to store and dispose of carcasses. And there is no risk of any suspect farm waste on the roadside anymore, because the containers are in the ground. And preventing odour problems contributes positively to the public's image of the sector.
