Facial protection protects the eyes hazardous materials, grinding spatter (shavings) and liquid spatter that are not damaging to the skin.
When purchasing safety glasses, there are a number of important concerns:
1. Is it possible to obviate the need for wearing protection?
2. Is wearing a helmet, hearing guard, or respiratory/facial protection necessary as well?
3. Can the exposure be limited?
4. Do the safety glasses have to fit over another pair of glasses or are they suitable by themselves?
- Safety glasses: these are similar in style to ordinary glasses, but the lenses are made of a special material: tempered glass or polycarbonate.
- Safety goggles: protects the eyes and one’s own glasses and offers protection against debris to the surrounding areas of the face.
5. Do I want glasses that do not fog or glasses the fit firmly against the face?
